    State Stud Warendorf

The North Rhine-Westphalia State Stud Warendorf was founded by the former Prussian Stud Administration in 1826 at the request of the breeders of Westphalia and the Rhine Province. After 1945, it was transferred into the ownership of the State of North Rhine-Westphalia. The function of the state stud – to provide breeders with high-quality and genetically interesting stallions for a reasonable stud fee - has remained basically unchanged since its foundation. The ultimate goal is breeding progress.

The state stud operates 22 covering facilities/insemination stations in Westphalia and the Rhineland, all managed by trained experts. The stud has an average stallion stock of 82 warmbloods, two fullbloods and 21 cold bloods.

In addition to being used for breeding, the Warendorf stallions also successfully compete in tournaments. Not only is this publicity for the state stud, it also contributes to the excellent image of the horses from North Rhine-Westphalia.

Stallions have been tested at the State Stud Warendorf since 1906. Both state sires and privately owned stallions can participate in the performance tests for riding horse stallions (70-day test). Since 1997, cold bloods have also been tested at the state stud in one-day field tests. Furthermore, a 30-day test has been available for Haflinger stallions since 2009.

The State Stud Warendorf offers 21 apprenticeship places for equine managers specialising in classical riding training, for equine managers specialising in breeding and for equine managers specialising in horse husbandry and service. The state stud is also a recognised training centre for insemination technicians and own stock inseminators for horses.

Since 1968, the German Riding School has been affiliated with the State Stud Warendorf. It offers training and examination courses for professional riders, amateurs and tournament professionals and is also a professional driving school*****. Around 50 stallions and geldings make up the stock of schoolmasters of the German Riding School.

The State Stud Warendorf holds its traditional annual stallion parades on four days at the end of September/start of October. The Open Air Festival in mid-August, comprising the “Symphony of the Stallions”, a family day and a live concert, is now a well-established highlight of the events calendar.
Events for breeders and horse lovers

For breeders, the state stud organises stallion shows, presentations and regular “Breeder Sundays”. It also offers a 70-day test for riding horses, a 30-day test for Haflingers and a field test for cold bloods.

All horse lovers will be interested in the garden festival, the Symphony of the Stallions “Melodies of Desire by Night”, the family day, live concert and of course the stallion parades.
You can find the exact dates for these events on the state stud’s homepage.
