State Stud Saxony-Anhalt / Prussendorf

A modern concept for the youngest state stud

The state stud Saxony-Anhalt, located in Prussendorf, is the youngest establishment of the German state studs. Nevertheless, horse breeding has a long tradition in the federal state of Saxony-Anhalt: the Halle–Kreuz state stud, steeped in tradition, was in operation from 1891 to 1961.

The State Stud Saxony-Anhalt was established in 1993 in the former Principal Stud Radegast to provide Saxony-Anhalt horse breeding with its own state stud. At the same time, there was a branch of industry for rearing young horses in nearby Prussendorf. Soon, for capacity-related reasons, the performance testing station was also moved to Prussendorf. As a result, the decision was made in 1997 to integrate the entire state stud and the state riding and driving school into the vast premises of the stud in Prussendorf.

Today, with its functional structure, the state stud is a focal point for horse breeding and equestrian sports in Saxony-Anhalt. In the breeding sector, the state stud excels by providing high-quality warmblood and cold blood stallions for breeders. The stud also serves as a competent and critical site for conducting all kinds of horse performance tests. Another of its functions is the purchase and rearing of stallion prospects, which it acquires primarily within state horse breeding facilities of the state of Saxony-Anhalt.
The name Prussendorf has become well-known nationally and internationally through several medal wins at the Federal Championships in Warendorf in recent years as well as through the international sports career of the state sire Monte Bellini.

The stud facilities in Prussendorf are equally important for equestrian sports, hosting a total of 10 tournament events a year. Owners can even have employees of the state stud prepare their young sport horses for use in such tournaments.
The state stud is also committed to supporting equestrian sport enthusiasts. Hence the state riding and driving school nurtures riders, drivers and trainers. The state stud undertakes yet another important function for the state of Saxony-Anhalt in that it trains equine managers and provides inter-company training.
